Drainage solutions

In any drainage application there are a number of points that make for a quality installation where the solution relies on good connection from the point of capture to pipeworks and the seals and containment within tanks and pits, which provide a good degree of flexibility.  The solutions work hand in hand with the source water, such as seepage that is held in the soil or ground and which usually runs along a rock layer where it is unable to infiltrate away and gravites to an excavation as the lowest open space, (least pressure !) and there is little place for the seepage to percolate away.

Seepage is nuisance water that must be removed, particularly under house or inside building and car-parks where the moisture can cause rising damp if not in a ventilated area and is unable to dry out and cause dank or musty smell.

Seepage will continue after the rainstorm event and requires an automatic pump operating in a low point collection pit. The selected pit should also be wide rather than deep to support the pump operation. Care should also be taken to avoid sediment washing into the pit as it will effect the life of the pump. Nuisance drainage or minor flooding is managed with pits and tanks or a well cut into the rock or in a concrete footing. Often there is a need to pump this water to suitable drainage and selection of a pump would be determined on the full flow characteristics in a rainstorm event.
