OSD on site retention / detention

OSD on site retention / detention

The managed release of stormwater from a property into the municipal drainage network infrastructure during heavy rainstorm events is managed by the on-site retention-detention devices that have been configured for one of two purposes:

- Retention is a design to retain usually a fixed amount of rainwater collection or stormwater whereas a detention design will hold back the peak flows (to the capacity of the storage available) and allow a controlled slow release of the peak flow to public drainage infrastructure.  The purpose is often to assist the capacity of public drainage infrastructure, by extending out the time the drainage infrastructure needs to remove discharge stormwater for a site

- Detention retains a certain amount of the storage volume for later use on the property which also has the effect of reducing the quantity of stormwater discharged by the storage amount but is not time offset.

These devices are commonly known as an OSD.

The SPARKLE | WATER OSD can also be configurerd as a multi-function device with options for filtering the stormwater before passing through the storage device and causing blockage of the orifice plate outlet.

An above ground retention / detention storage tank normally only handles rainwater collected from a roof catchment, whereas an inground storage tank can receive surfacewater and roofwater to manage the majority of run-off water of a site controlling the volume of stormwater release to large infrastructure drains or waterways.

The nominal size of the orifice is nominally 48mm for a suburban property.

The capability of the SPARKLE | WATER OSD and attachments used are designed to avoid confined space entry for cleaning of organics and also act as a silt pit that can be accessed and maintained from ground level.

The configuration of an OSD can be specified to include typical outlet connections to standards design requirement if confirmed at time of order.

  2. SPARKLE Storm OSD 1000 litre 600x600 Class A Access Opening - keylock option

    Retail Price: US$1,322.27

The SPARKLE onsite retention/detention device (OSD) STORM_osd is a device for managed stormwater release to slow low intensity or peak storm flows that would overload public infrastructure drainage and lead to flooding issues if not controlled. The SPARKLE OSD range can be configured using any combination of tank sizes and holding capacity that can be increased using interconnected units in parallel or series for larger retention design.

The SPARKLE OSD range is also designed to assist with safety, including around excluding the need for confined space access, dangerous currents and surcharges in peak inflows and outflows with lockable access covers and installation avoiding the need to be exposed to lengthy deep excavation conditions.  Any application is site specific for the construction, usage conditions and device specifications, thus above the design approach every application must seek suitably qualified engineered design and compliance approval for the application of the supplied product.

STORM_osd can be used in conjunction with other inline devices to improve water quality like separators to avoid blockages but the STORM_osd is principally used as a boundary management device to hold back stormwater flows from a property and avoid sediment and organic material blockages.

These special configured device are unique off-the-shelf product configurations on the market also more effectively addressing the safety aspects of restricted access, external maintenance and certifiable drainage layout designed for ease and speed of installation.

The inlet and outlet ports are configurable to match the drainage layout and adding an optional accessible external mesh screen function is as simple as fitting our filter box.  Other configuration options include surface level grate access cover or with keylock option can be selected and fitted easily at any time.

Note: as a guide, the Sydney UPRCT’s on-site detention policy requires a storage volume of 470 m3 per ha and a permissible site discharge (PSD) of 80 L/s per ha of land area.

  6. Packaged SPARKLE Stormwater OSD on site retention/detention

    From: US$1,807.65

    To: US$5,114.20

STORM_osd is normally a property boundary device that is used to manage the retention of stormwater flowing from a property through a detention basin, and its subsequent controlled release into the public stormwater drainage network. The device slows down peak storm intensity flows that could overload public infrastructure drainage and lead to down stream flooding issues if not controlled.

The STORM_osd range is offered in versions from 400 litres to 5000 litre holding capacity which can be interconnected in parallel or series for even larger retention system designs.

STORM_osd can also be used in conjunction with other inline devices to improve water quality but is principally used as a boundary management device. These devices address the safety aspects of resricted access, external maintenance and certifiable drainage layout and are designed for ease and speed of installation. The inlet and outlet ports are configurable to match the drainage layout and adding a mesh screen function is as simple as fitting our valve box grated module during installation.

Note:  as a guide, the Sydney UPRCT’s on-site detention policy requires a storage volume of 470 m3 per ha and a permissible site discharge (PSD) of 80 L/s per ha of land area. The OSD scenario for each development case is designed in accordance with the On Site Detention Handbook [UPRCT, 1999]. All stormwater runoff from roofs, impervious and pervious areas is directed to the OSD tanks.
