Stormwater reuse

Stormwater reuse

Disinfection ensures that water being drawn from a water storage resource is free of harmful pathogens and organisms. These contaminants need to be suitably treated to maintain the highest water quality possible.  This final treatment is achieved by either chemical treatments such as chlorine or ozone for the higher level of protection, followed by ultraviolet light (UV).  Membrane treatment at or below reverse osmosis may not reach the level of protection needed for some common viruses in the water distribution system or a combination of treatment processes can be used in association with a fine sediment filtration to remove total suspended solids (TSS) which improves the disinfection process.

Disinfection leads to source water utilisation which is facilitated by a controlled pressure pump system. The pressure pump would be specified according to the point where the water is needed, the volume and pressure required for the application like taps in a house, yard or for larger applications like for landscape architecture, public space maintenance and sports fields irrigation, air-conditioning plant make-up water, process cooling, agricultural watering or any application that does not rely on mains distributed potable water.

These non-potable water applications represent up to about 70% of all our water needs.

Water use is often taken for granted but that does not happen without sophisticated control occurring somewhere in the background. SPARKLE | WATER has developed the WiWo water source controller that is available in a range of sizes for the performance required. The WiWo is a change-over device to priorities the use of alternate water source such as rainwater / stormwater from harvested rainwater and at the same time managing the efficient use of pumps, disinfection and managing the water quality of the stored water source in a healthy condition whilst it is available. WiWo manages the water demand and ensures water is available even if the stored water is used up or is not suitable for use but ensures that mains water is available until additional alternate water source is replenished or power is restored to drive the reuse system.
